The Standing Committee on Industry met in a televised meeting at 3:33 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 253-D of the Centre Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Antoine Dubé, Marlene Jennings, Jim Jones, Walt Lastewka, Ian Murray, Werner Schmidt, Alex Shepherd and Susan Whelan.
Acting Members present: Mac Harb for Tony Ianno, Aileen Carroll for Bonnie Brown.
Other Members present: John Bryden.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: : David Johansen and Nathalie Pothier, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the University of Toronto: Prof. Jacob S. Ziegel, Professor of Law Emeritus. From the Competition Bureau: Don Mercer, Head, Amendments Units; Harry Chandler, Deputy Director of Investigation and Research, Criminal Matters Branch.
Pursuant to an Order of Reference of the House dated Tuesday, March 17, 1998, consideration of Bill C-20, An Act to amend the Competition Act and to make consequential and related amendments to other Acts.
Prof. Jacob S. Ziegel made a statement and answered questions.
At 4:31 o’clock p.m. the sitting was suspended.
At 4:37 o’clock p.m. the sitting resumed.
Harry Chandler and Don Mercer each made a statement and answered questions.
At 5:17 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
