Meeting No. 62

Wednesday, October 21, 1998

The Standing Committee on Industry met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Eugène Bellemare, Marlene Jennings, Stan Keyes, Francine Lalonde, Walt Lastewka, Jim Pankiw, Janko Peric, Alex Shepherd and Susan Whelan.

Acting Members present: Carolyn Parrish for Ian Murray.

In attendance: From Committees and Legislative Services: Richard Dupuis, Legislative Clerk. From the Library of Parliament: Antony Jackson, Research Officer.

Witnesses:From the Canadian Federation of Independent Business: Garth Whyte, Vice-President, National Affairs; Brien Gray, Senior Vice-President.

Pursuant to an Order of Reference of the House dated Tuesday, October 6, 1998, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-53, An Act to increase the availability of financing for the establishment, expansion, modernization and improvement of small businesses. (See Minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, October 7th, 1998, Meeting No. 60)

Brien Gray and Garth Whyte made a statement and answered questions.

At 5:08 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
