Meeting No. 61

Tuesday, April 27, 1999

The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 11:07 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Guy St-Julien, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Sue Barnes, John Bryden, John Finlay, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Robert D. Nault, Mike Scott and Guy St-Julien.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley and Jill Wherrett, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of Indian and Northern Affairs Canada: Bob Watts, Assistant Deputy Minister, Lands and Trust Services; Randy Brant, Director General, Lands & Environment Branch; Robert Eyahpaise, Director, Lands Directorate; Michel Blondin, Manager, Policy Planning, Lands Directorate; Serge Larose, Manager, Policy Operations, Lands Directorate.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee commenced a review of the administration of Leases under the Indian Act. (See Minutes of Proceeding dated Wednesday, March 10, 1999, Meeting No. 53)

Bob Watts and Robert Eyahpaise made statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 11:44 a.m., the Vice-Chair took the Chair.

At 11:50 a.m., the Chair took the Chair.

At 12:40 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
