MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 48

Thursday, February 4, 1999

The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met in camera at 11:20 a.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chair, Guy St-Julien, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: John Bryden, John Finlay, Nancy Karetak-Lindell, Derrek Konrad, Robert D. Nault, Guy St-Julien and Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Members present: Paul Devillers for Judi Longfield, Carmen Provenzano for Lawrence O'Brien.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jill Wherrett, Research Officer.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of future business.

It was agreed, -That the Committee approve a travel budget of $481.02, and that the Chair of the Committee seek authorization from the House for the Research Officer to travel to Toronto from Wednesday, February 17 to Saturday, February 20, 1999 to attend the Aboriginal Economic Development forum, and that the conference fee of $957.65 be paid from the Committee's working budget.

It was agreed, -That the Committee commence consideration of Bill C-56, An Act respecting an agreement with the Norway House Cree Nation for the settlement of matters arising from the flooding of land, and respecting the establishment of certain reserves in the province of Manitoba, on Tuesday, February 9, 1999.

It was agreed, -That the Committee commence consideration of a draft interim report on Aboriginal Economic Development on Thursday, February 11, 1999.

At 11:55 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
