The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 3:40 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 701 La Promenade Building, the Chair, Guy Saint-Julien, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, John Bryden, John Finlay, Louise Hardy, Gerald Keddy, Guy Saint-Julien, Mike Scott and Bryon Wilfert.
Acting Members present: Robert Bertrand for Bernard Patry.
In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Mary C. Hurley and Jill Wherrett, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Pehdzeh Ki Dene Band: Tim Lennie, Former Chief; Gabe Hardisty, Former Chief. From the Jean Marie River Band: Yvonne Norwegian, Chief. From the West Point First Nation: Florence Cayen, Chief; Leon Thomas, Councillor. From the Llidli Koe First Nation: Rita Cli, Chief. From the Deh Cho First Nations: Grand Chief Mike Nadli. From the Deninu Kue Environment Committee: Patrick Simon, Coordinator; Lloyd Norn, Member. From the Akaitcho Territory Tribal Council: Grand Chief Felix Lockhart. From the Dene Nation: Bill Erasmus, Dene National Chief.
The Committee resumed consideration Bill C-6, An Act to provide for an integrated system of land and water management in the Mackenzie Valley, to establish certain boards for that purpose and to make consequential amendments to other Acts.

Tim Lennie, Gabe Hardisty, Yvonne Norwegian, Florence Cayen, Leon Thomas, Rita Cli, Mike Nadli, Patrick Simon, Lloyd Norn and Felix Lockhart made statements.
It was agreed, - That pages 1,2 and the first paragraph on page 3 of the written brief of Dene National Chief Bill Erasmus be taken as read.
Bill Erasmus made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.
At 5:35 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
