Meeting No. 39

Tuesday, October 27, 1998

The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 11:12 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Guy St-Julien, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, John Bryden, John Finlay, David Iftody, Derrek Konrad and Guy St-Julien.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Mary Hurley and Jill Wherrett, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Cree-Naskapi Commission: Richard Saunders, Chairman; Robert Kanatewat, Commissioner; Philip Awashish, Commissioner.

In accordance with its Standing Order 32(5), a study of the Cree Naskapi Commission Report 1998. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated October 20, 1998, Meeting No. 37)

The Committee commenced its study of the Cree Naskapi Commission Report 1998.

Richard Saunders and Philip Awashish made statements.

At 11:45 o'clock a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 1:20 o'clock p.m. the sitting resumed.

Robert Kanatewat made a statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 2:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
