Thursday, October 29, 1998
The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 11:14 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Guy St-Julien, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Peter Adams, John Bryden, John Finlay, Ghislain Fournier, David Iftody, Gerald Keddy, Derrek Konrad, Judi Longfield, Guy St-Julien and Bryon Wilfert.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jill Wherrett, Research Officer. George Kakayuk, Inuit Interpreter.
Witnesses: From the Nordic Municipality of Akulivik: Adamie Alayco, Mayor; From the Town of Umiujaq: Robbie Tookalak, Mayor; From the Corporation of the Northern Village of Inukjuak: Siasi Smiler, Mayor; From the Town of Kuujjuaraapik: Anthony Ittoshat, Mayor; From the Corporation of the Northern Village of Salluit: Qalingo Angotigirk, Mayor.
In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Aboriginal Economic Development. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday, March 24, 1998, Meeting No. 21)
The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.
Anthony Ittoshat and George Kakayuk provided interpretation as required.
At 1:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
