Meeting No. 34

Wednesday, June 10, 1998

The Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development met at 3:47 o’clock p.m., this day, in room 705, La Promenade, the Chair, Guy Saint-Julien, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Gordon Earle, John Finlay, Ghislain Fournier, Gerald Keddy, Derrek Konrad, Guy Saint-Julien and Bryon Wilfert.

In attendance: From the Research Branch of the Library of Parliament Jill Wherrett, Research Officer.

Witnesses: Mining Association of Canada: Gisèle Jacob, Vice President, Public Affairs.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of Aboriginal Economic Development. (See Minutes of Proceedings dated Tuesday, March 24, 1998, Meeting No. 21).

Gisele Jacob made an opening statement and answered questions.

Derek Konrad gave notice of the following motion:

--That the Standing Committee on Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development study and report back to the House on the impact on British Columbia of the Supreme Court of Canada's decision in Delgamuukw vs. British Columbia (December 11, 1997).

At 5:15 o’clock p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
