MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 1

Tuesday, February 27, 2001

The Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met in camera at 4:07 p.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Mac Harb, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Bill Casey, Mark Eyking, Mac Harb, Pat O'Brien, Pierre Paquette, Svend Robinson.

Acting Members present: Rick Casson for Gary Lunn.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Peter Berg and Blayne Haggart, Research Officers.

It was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to hold meetings to receive evidence when a quorum is not present provided that at least three (3) members are present, including a member of the Opposition.

It was agreed, - That witnesses be given ten (10) minutes for their opening statement and, that during the questioning of witnesses, there be allocated ten (10) minutes for each questioner, at the discretion of the Chair.

It was agreed, - That the Sub-Committee study Canada's Economic Relations with Europe and that, pursuant to Standing Order 108(1)(a), evidence taken by the Sub-Committee on Canada's Economic Relations with Europe during the last Session of the previous Parliament, be deemed adduced by the Sub-Committee in the current session.

It was agreed, - That, in relation to its study of Canada's economic relations with Europe, eight members of the Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade, and that the necessary committee staff be authorized to travel to London, Paris, Geneva, Berlin, Brussels and Dublin, from April 22 to May 5.

It was agreed, - That the Sub-Committee would hold a hearing on the softwood lumber dispute prior to March 31, 2001.

 

At 4:35 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
