MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 10

Wednesday, October 3, 2001

The Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Rick Casson, Mark Eyking, Mac Harb, Pat O'Brien, Pierre Paquette, Bob Speller and Tony Valeri.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Peter Berg, Research Officer.

Pursuant to the Order of Tuesday October 2, 2001 of the Standing Committee of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Election of the Chair.

The Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair.

On motion of Bob Speller, it was agreed, -That, Mac Harb be elected Chair of the Sub-Committee.

Accordingly, Mac Harb was declared duly elected Chair of the Sub-Committee and took the Chair.

At 3:32 p.m. the sitting was suspended.

At 3:33 p.m. the Sub-Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

It was agreed, - That pursuant to the Order of Thursday, September 27, 2001, of the Standing Committee of Foreign Affairs and International Trade,- That the Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment invite Mr. Juan Somavia, Director General of the International Labour Organization, to appear before it on Wednesday, October 17 at 3:30 p.m.

It was agreed, - That the Sub-Committee’s study of Bill C-32 take place on Wednesday, October 17 at 4:30 p.m., pursuant to the Order of Tuesday, October 2, 2001, of the Standing Committee of Foreign Affairs and International Trade,-That the study of Bill C-32, An Act to implement the Free Trade Agreement between the Government of Canada and the Government of the Republic of Costa Rica, be referred to the Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment, and that a working dinner be provided.

 It was agreed, - That the Sub-Committee would hold hearings on the issue of U.S.-Canada border delays and the commercial implications for trade.

 At 4:07 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
