MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 13

Thursday, October 25, 2001

The Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:38 p.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Mac Harb, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Rick Casson, Mac Harb, Gary Lunn, Pierre Paquette.

Acting Member present: Judi Longfield for Bob Speller.

Associate Member present:  John Duncan.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Peter Berg and Michael Holden, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Association of Importers and Exporters: John Bescec, Vice-President. From the Custom Excise Union: Serge Charette, National President. From the Canadian Chamber of Commerce: Alexander Lofthouse, Policy Analyst.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2) – Study on U.S. - Canada Border delays.

Witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 4:23 p.m. the Sub-Committee considered a draft report on the Sugar Industry.  On a motion by Gary Lunn, it was agreed, - That the draft report be adopted as the Third Report of the Sub-Committee and that the Chair report it to the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade.

At 4:24 the Sub-Committee resumed its study of U. S. – Canada Border delays.

At 5:02 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
