Meeting No. 26

Wednesday, March 20, 2002

The Sub-Committee on International Trade, Trade Disputes and Investment of the Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:31 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Mac Harb, presiding.

Members of the Sub-Committee present: Rick Casson, Mark Eyking, Mac Harb, Pat O'Brien, Pierre Paquette, Svend Robinson, Bob Speller, Tony Valeri.

Other Member present: Bill Casey.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Peter Berg and Michael Holden, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Wheat Board: Larry Hill, CWB Director; Victor Jarjour, Strategic Planning and Policy; Carl Potts, Strategic Planning and Policy. From the Canadian Cattlemen's Association: Jim Caldwell, Director, Government Affairs, Government Affairs; Neil Jahnke, Chairman, Foreign Trade Committee. From the Canadian Federation of Agriculture: Dietwald Claus, Policy Analyst; Bob Friesen, President; Brigid Rivoire, Executive Director. From the Canadian Agri-Food Trade Alliance: Liam McCreery, President; Ted Haney, Director on CAFTA. From the Canadian Sugar Institute: Sandra Marsden, President.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Sub-Committee resumed its study of an assessment of WTO negotiating issues from a Canadian perspective, (See Minutes of Proceedings of Wednesday, January 30, 2002, Meeting no. 17).

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

It was agreed, – That the brief submitted by Liam McCreery, be taken as read into the record.

At 5:10 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 5:15 p.m., the sitting resumed in camera.

It was agreed, – That, the travel plan for the FTAA study, as adopted by the Sub-Committee on February 20, 2002, be amended to reflect the dates of travel as being April 28, 2002 until May 12, 2002.

At 5:30 p.m., the Sub-Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
