MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 68

Tuesday, May 28, 2002

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met in camera at 9:20 a.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chair, Charles Hubbard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: David L. Anderson, Rick Borotsik, Garry Breitkreuz, Murray Calder, Mark Eyking, Marcel Gagnon, Howard Hilstrom, Charles Hubbard, Rick Laliberte, Dick Proctor, Bob Speller and Rose-Marie Ur.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal and Frédéric Forge, Analyst.

The Committee resumed its consideration of a draft report on the Labelling of Genetically Modified Food.

It was agreed,-- That the draft report (as amended) be adopted.

It was ordered,-- That the Chair present the Report (as amended) to the House at the earliest possible opportunity.

It was agreed,-- That the Chair, Researchers and Clerk be authorized to make such typographical and editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the report.

It was agreed,-- That pursuant to Standing Order 109, the Committee request the Government to table a comprehensive response to the Report.

It was agreed,-- That, pursuant to Standing Order 108(1), the Committee authorize the printing of the supplementary or dissenting opinions as an appendix to this report immediately after the signature of the Chair; that the supplementary opinions be limited to no more than 2 pages; (font = Arial 12; line spacing = 1); and, that the supplementary opinions be submitted electronically to the Clerk of the Committee in both official languages, no later than 4 o’clock p.m. on May 30, 2002.

It was agreed,-- That a News Release be issued.

At 10:47 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
