The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:33 a.m. this day, in Napanee, Ontario, the Chair, Charles Hubbard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: David L. Anderson, Rick Borotsik, Howard Hilstrom, Charles Hubbard, Larry McCormick, Dick Proctor and Paul Steckle.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Research Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the committee resumed its study on the Future Role of the Government in Agriculture.

Witnesses: Panel I:  From the Creek County Regional Environmental Evaluation Koalition: Don Chisholm. From the Lennox and Addington Federation of Agriculture: Iain Gardiner, President. From the Ontario Federation of Agriculture: Al Gardiner, Provincial Representative. As Individual: Paul Burns; Ray Pender; William Rendell; Kevin Dick.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 11:06 a.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 11:18 a.m., the sitting resumed.

Panel II:  From the Canadian Organic Sprout Company: William Brown; Dean Harvie. From the United Food & Commercial Workers International Union: Michael Fraser, Director. From the Hastings County Dairy Producer: George Thompson. From the Ontario Federation of Agriculture: John Williamson, Representative, Frontenac County. From the Caravan Project: Stan Raper. As Individual: John Hastings; Barton MacLean; Kevin MacLean; Bob Dick. From the Renfrew County Federation of Agriculture: Bob Johnston.

From the Canadian Organic Growers: Doug Parker, Representative of Prince Edward County Chapter. As Individual: Helen Forsey; Larry Wannamaker; Harold Piercy.

Ormond Lee, John Morrison, Peter Dowling, Gerry Albright, Richard Kidd, Doug Parker, Helen Forsey, Larry Wannamaker and Harold Piercy made statements and with the other witness, answered questions.
