Thursday, May 3, 2001

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:08 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Charles Hubbard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: David L. Anderson, Rick Borotsik, Murray Calder, Marcel Gagnon, Charles Hubbard, Larry McCormick, Dick Proctor, Paul Steckle, Suzanne Tremblay.

Acting Members present: David Price for Claude Duplain, Kevin Sorenson for Howard Hilstrom.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge and Jean-Denis Fréchette, Research Offiicers.

Appearing: From the House of Commons: Larry McCormick, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.

Witnesses: From the Farm Credit Corporation: John Ryan, President and Chief Executive Officer; Louise Neveu, Executive Vice-President & Chief Knowledge Officer; Moyez Somani, Executive Vice-President and Chief Financial Officer.

The Order of Reference dated Tuesday, May 1st, 2001, being now read as follows:

ORDERED, -- That Bill C-25, An Act to amend the Farm Credit Corporation Act and to make consequential amendments to other Acts be now read a second time and referred to the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food.

Mr. Larry McCormick, Parliamentary Secretary, made an opening statement and, with other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:55 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
