Meeting No. 51

Friday, February 22, 2002

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 8:53 a.m. this day, in Kamloops, British Columbia, the Chair, Charles Hubbard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Murray Calder, Howard Hilstrom, Charles Hubbard, Dick Proctor and Paul Steckle.

Acting Members present: Odina Desrochers for Suzanne Tremblay and Betty Hinton for David Anderson.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Senior Analyst.

Witnesses: As Individual: Brewster Kneen; Peter Murray; Peter Phillip; Bruce Newton and Cathleen Kneen.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on the Future Role of the Government in Agriculture.

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

Pursuant to an order adopted on February 27, 2001, the Chair authorized that the document entitled “Presentation to the Honourable Paul Martin, Minister of Finance, on behalf of the Cariboo, British Columbia, and Canadian Cattlemen’s Association – January 14, 2002, Williams Lake, British Columbia” be filed as an exhibit with the Clerk of the Committee. (Exhibit “AGRI-A”).

Pursuant to an order adopted on February 27, 2001, the Chair authorized that the document entitled “Interests in the Treaty Land Selection Process prepared by the British Columbia Cattlemen’s Association – June 15, 2001” be filed as an exhibit with the Clerk of the Committee (Exhibit “AGRI-B”).

At 10:47 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
