The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Charles Hubbard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: David L. Anderson, Rick Borotsik, Murray Calder, Claude Duplain, Mark Eyking, Marcel Gagnon, Howard Hilstrom, Charles Hubbard, Dick Proctor, Bob Speller, Paul Steckle and Rose-Marie Ur.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge and Jean-Denis Fréchette, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Canola Council of Canada: JoAnne Buth, Vice-President. From the KPMG Canada: Geoff Golder, Senior Manager. From the AGCare (Agricultural Groups Concerned About Resources and the Environment): Quentin Martin, Member of the Board; Brenda Cassidy, Executive Director. From the Western Grain Elevator Association: Ed H. Guest, Executive Director. From the Department of Health: Paul Mayers, Director, Food Policy Integration, Food Directorate, Health Products and Food Branch.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), Study on the Labelling of Genetically Modified Food. (Impacts of voluntary and mandatory labelling on agricultural producers and the rest of the agri-food industry).

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 11:02 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
