Meeting No. 4

Tuesday, March 13, 2001

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 209, West Block, the Chair, Charles Hubbard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: David L. Anderson, Rick Borotsik, Garry Breitkreuz, Murray Calder, Howard Hilstrom, Charles Hubbard, Larry McCormick, Dick Proctor, Bob Speller, Rose-Marie Ur.

Acting Member present: Pierre Paquette for Suzanne Tremblay.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, research officer.

Witnesses: From the Department of Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada: Terry Norman, Director, Western Hemisphere Trade Policy Division, International Trade policy Directorate, Market and Industry Services Branch; Glyn Chancey, Deputy Director, Western Hemisphere Trade Agreements, International Trade Policy Directorate, Market and Industry Services Branch. From the Canadian Food Inspection Agency: Billy Hewett, Director, Policy, International Affairs; Ray Rush, Director, Bilateral Relations, International Affairs.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), Consideration of the Negotiations of the Free Trade Area of the Americas.

Terry Norman made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

By unanimous consent, the Chair welcomed the participants of the Call Program.

It was agreed, - That the Committee invite witnesses on Thursday, March 15, 01 on the topic of the potato wart in PEI.

At 10:55 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
