MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 66

Tuesday, May 21, 2002

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met in camera at 9:15 a.m. this day, in Room 307, West Block, the Chair, Charles Hubbard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: David L. Anderson, Rick Borotsik, Claude Duplain, Howard Hilstrom, Charles Hubbard, Dick Proctor, Bob Speller Rose-Marie Ur.

Acting Members present: Odina Desrochers for Suzanne Tremblay and Rick Casson for Garry Breitkreuz.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Jean-Denis Fréchette, Principal and Frédéric Forge, Analyst.

It was agreed,-- That the Committee approve the payment of $99.80 (5 books on Parliament Building-Malak-at $19.96 each) for the gifts offered to the members of the Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee of the National People’s Congress of China on May 8, 2002.

It was agreed,-- That the Canadian Wheat Board appear on June 6, 2002 to give a Briefing Session.

It was agreed,-- That the appearance of Minister Lyle Vanclief on Main Estimates be held prior to May 31, 2002 and be televised.

It was agreed,-- That in relation to the new U.S. Farm Bill and other International Trade Issues, a group comprised of 4 Government members and one member of each of the Opposition parties of the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food be authorized to travel to Washington, D.C., during the week of June 3, 2002, and that the necessary staff do accompany the Committee.

It was agreed,-- That the Committee approve a budget of $50,012.00 to cover the costs of this travel and that the Chair be instructed to request these funds from the Liaison Committee.

At 10:00 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
