Meeting No. 21

Tuesday, May 29, 2001

The Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Charles Hubbard, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: David L. Anderson, Rick Borotsik, Garry Breitkreuz, Murray Calder, Claude Duplain, Mark Eyking, Marcel Gagnon, Howard Hilstrom, Charles Hubbard, Larry McCormick, Bob Speller, Paul Steckle, Rose-Marie Ur.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Frédéric Forge and Jean-Denis Fréchette, Research Officers.

Witnesses: As Individual: George L. Brinkman, Agricultural Economics and Business, University of Guelph; Hartley Furtan, Agricultural Economics and Trade, University of Saskatchewan.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), study of the future role of the Federal Government in Canada's Agricultural sector.

George L. Brinkman and Hartley Furtan made opening statements and answered questions.

It was agreed, -- That the meeting on June 5, 2001 with the Ministers of Agriculture from the Prairie provinces’ be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 (noon).

At 11:11 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
