MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 59

Wednesday, May 1st, 2002

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 1:00 p.m. this day, in Charlottetown, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Rodger Cuzner, Christiane Gagnon, John Harvard, Wendy Lill and Clifford Lincoln.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Cofman, intern; Joseph Jackson, Research Officer.  Consultant:  David Black.  Expert Advisor: Marc Raboy.

Witnesses: From the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island: The Hon. Wes MacAleer, MLA. From the Cellar Door Productions: Gretha Rose, President. From the "Société Saint-Thomas d'Aquin": Maria Bernard, President; Dominic Langlois, Liaison Officer. From the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada: Steve Stapleton, President, Local 911M; Dan Viau, President, Local 21M. From the Canadian Media Guild: Ian Petrie, Local President.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on the State of the Canadian Broadcasting System.  (See Minutes of Proceeding, dated Thursday, November 8, 2001, Meeting No. 26).

The witnesses made opening statements and answered questions.

At 2:50 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 2:55 p.m., the sitting resumed.

At 4:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
