MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 9

Tuesday, May 8, 2001

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in camera at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Paul Bonwick, Rodger Cuzner, Christiane Gagnon, John Harvard, André Harvey, Loyola Hearn, Clifford Lincoln, Dennis Mills, Shawn Murphy, Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Member present: Diane Bourgeois for Caroline St-Hilaire.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Joe Jackson and Terry Thomas, Research Officers.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a discussion of future business.

It was agreed,--That the Committee hold a briefing on Marine Conservation Areas on Tuesday, May 15, 2001 at 9:00 a.m.

  • That the format of hearings on Bill C-10 be that of a round table panel.
  • That the Committee accept the offer of the Minister of Canadian Heritage to appear before the Committee on Thursday, May 17, 2001 to discuss the Main Estimates.
  • That the Committee accept the offer of the Hon. Hedy Fry, Secretary of State (Multiculturalism) (Status of Women) to appear before the Committee on Tuesday, May 29, 2001 to discuss the Main Estimates.
  • That the Committee invite Jacques Bensimon of the National Film Board of Canada to appear before the Committee before the House rise in June.
  • That the Chair write on official letter, on behalf of the Committee to the President and Chief Executive Officer of The Canada Council for the Arts regarding Committee concerns and that the Chair distribute the response to the letter to the Members of the Committee.
  • That the Chair write a letter, on behalf of the Committee to the officials that appeared regarding the Canadian Book Industry, stating that the unofficial response formely requested by the Committee be waived if the official government report is available before the House rises in June.
  • That the Chair write to Program Source, informing them that their request to appear before the Committee has been communicated to the Committee Members.

At 10:03 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
