Meeting No. 29

Tuesday, November 27, 2001

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Paul Bonwick, Sarmite Bulte, Rodger Cuzner, Claude Duplain, Christiane Gagnon, John Harvard, Betty Hinton, Wendy Lill, Clifford Lincoln, Grant McNally, Dennis Mills and Tony Tirabassi.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Terrence Thomas and Joseph Jackson, research officers; David Black, consultant.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Television Fund: Richard Stursberg, Chairman of the Board; Louise Baillargeon, Vice President; Janet Yale, Vice-President, Board. From the Canadian Independent Film and Video Fund: Robin Jackson, Executive Director. From the Shaw Children's Programming Initiative: Alex Park, Vice-President, Programming and Educational Services. From the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA): Gary Neil, Policy Advisor. From the Canadian Media Guild: Lise Lareau, President. From the Newspaper Guild of Canada: Arnold Amber, Director.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on the State of the Canadian Broadcasting System.  (See Minutes of Proceeding, dated Thursday, November 8, 2001, Meeting No. 26).

Richard Stursberg, Robin Jackson and Alex Park made statements and, with Louise Baillargeon, answered questions.

Gary Neil, Lise Lareau and Arnold Amber made statements.

At 11:10 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
