MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 17

Tuesday, October 16, 2001

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in camera at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Paul Bonwick, Sarmite Bulte, Rodger Cuzner, Claude Duplain, Christiane Gagnon, Roger Gallaway, Betty Hinton, Wendy Lill, Clifford Lincoln, Grant McNally, Dennis Mills, Tony Tirabassi.

Acting Members present:  Andy Burton for Cheryl Gallant.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Joe Jackson, Terry Thomas, Research Officers and Alan Cofman, intern.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a discussion of future business.

It was agreed,- That the preliminary schedule of hearings for the study on the state of the Canadian broadcasting system, dated October 16, 2001, be adopted.

It was agreed,- That in relation to its study on the state of the canadian broadcasting system, the Committee seek permission to travel to Toronto from November 25 – 29, 2001 and February 4 – 7, 2002; to Montreal and Quebec City from December 3 – 7, 2001;

to Regina, Edmonton, Vancouver and Victoria from February 17 – 22, 2002;

 

to St.John’s, Halifax, Charlottetown and Fredericton from March 4 – 8, 2002;

 

to the Communications Research Centre, Ottawa on Tuesday, March 12, 2002;

 

and that the necessary staff accompany the Committee.

It was agreed,- That in relation to Bill C-10, an Act respecting the national marine conservation areas of Canada, witnesses from British Columbia be heard in Ottawa and via videoconference from Prince Rupert on Tuesday, October 23, 2001, and in Ottawa and via videoconference from Vancouver on Thursday, October 25, 2001, and that clause-by-clause consideration of the Bill be taken up on Tuesday, October 30, 2001.

At 10:05 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
