MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 16

Thursday, October 4, 2001

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, for the purpose of electing a chair and vice-chairs.

Member of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Paul Bonwick, Sarmite Bulte, Claude Duplain, Christiane Gagnon, John Harvard, Betty Hinton, Wendy Lill, Clifford Lincoln, Grant McNally, Dennis Mills, Tony Tirabassi.

Acting Members present: Marlene Catterall for Roger Gallaway; Gérard Binet for Rodger Cuzner; Andy Burton for Cheryl Gallant.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Joe Jackson, Research Officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 106(1) and 106(2), the Clerk of the Committee presided over the election of a Chair and Vice-Chairs.

On motion of Jim Abbott, it was agreed, - That Clifford Lincoln do take the chair of the Committee as Chair.

Accordingly, Clifford Lincoln was declared duly elected Chair of the Committee and took the chair.

On motion of Tony Tirabassi, it was agreed, - That Dennis Mills be elected Government Vice-Chair of the Committee.

On motion of Paul Bonwick, it was agreed, - That Jim Abbott be elected Opposition Vice-Chair of the Committee.

At 9:15 a.m., by unanimous consent, the Committee proceeded to sit in camera.

The Committee proceeded to consideration of future business.

It was agreed,- That the Committee resume consideration of Bill C-10, An Act respecting the national marine conservation areas of Canada, during the weeks of October 22 and October 29, 2001.

At 10:30 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
