Meeting No. 5

Thursday, March 15, 2001

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in camera at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair in camera, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Paul Bonwick, Sarmite Bulte, Rodger Cuzner, John Harvard, André Harvey, Loyola Hearn, Wendy Lill, Clifford Lincoln, Dennis Mills, Shawn Murphy, Bryon Wilfert.

Acting Member(s) present: James Rajotte for Cheryl Gallant, Benoit Sauvageau for Christiane Gagnon, Robert Lanctôt for Caroline St-Hilaire, Paddy Torsney for Bryon Wilfert.

Other Member present: Diane Bourgeois

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament:, Joe Jackson and Terry Thomas, Research Officer.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to a discussion of future business.

It was agreed, - That officials responsible for negotiating the cultural content of the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA) be invited to appear before the Committee at the earliest opportunity before the April 20, 2001 Summit of the Americas.

It was agreed, - That, as discussed during Meeting No.3 held on March 1, 2001. Canadian Heritage officials provide a written response to the recommendations in the Committee's report entitled The Challenge of Change: A Consideration of the Canadian Book Industry, tabled in the House of Commons in June 2000.

At 10:45 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
