Meeting No. 39

Wednesday, February 27, 2002

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met at 9:00 a.m. this day, in  Edmonton, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Christiane Gagnon, Roger Gallaway, John Harvard, Betty Hinton, Wendy Lill, Clifford Lincoln and Grant McNally.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Cofman, intern; Joseph Jackson, research officer; Consultant: David Black.

Witnesses: From the Alberta Motion Picture Industries Association: Connie Edwards, President; Nic Wry, Broadcasting Committee Chair.  As Individual: John Grogan; Kathryn Fraser; Brian Staples. From the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada: Richard Zyp, Representative, Local 1900; Nancy Wahl, President. From the Canadian Learning Television: Jill Bonenfant, Director, Programming. From the "Association canadienne-française de l'Alberta": Raymond Lamoureux, Director General.  As Individual: Helen Neufeld.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on the State of the Canadian Broadcasting System.  (See Minutes of Proceeding, dated Thursday, November 8, 2001, Meeting No. 26).

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

At 1:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
