Meeting No. 52

Thursday, April 18, 2002

The Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage met in a televised session at 9:08 a.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Clifford Lincoln, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Jim Abbott, Sarmite Bulte, Rodger Cuzner, Claude Duplain, Christiane Gagnon, John Harvard, Wendy Lill, Clifford Lincoln and Dennis Mills.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Cofman, intern; Joseph Jackson, Terrence Thomas, Research Officers; Consultant:  David Black.

Witnesses: From the Association of Canadian Advertisers: Ronald S. Lund, President & CEO; Robert Reaume, Vice-President, Media & Research. From the Canadian Media Directors Council: Sunni Boot, President of Optimedia Canada. From the Institute of Communications and Advertising: David Harrison, President of Harrison, Young, Pesonen and Newell. From the Concerned Children's Advertisers: Cathy Loblaw, President & CEO; Sunni Boot, Vice-Chair, Media; Linda Millar, Director, Education; Patti Manna, Director, Children's Media. From the Media Awareness Network: Alan Mirabelli, Vice-Chair, Executive Director, Administration, Communications & Information, Vanier Institute of the Family; Jan D'Arcy, Co-Director.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study on the State of the Canadian Broadcasting System.  (See Minutes of Proceeding, dated Thursday, November 8, 2001, Meeting No. 26).

At 10:23 a.m., the sitting resumed.

At 11:53 a.m., the sitting resumed.

At 12:08 p.m., the sitting was suspended.

At 12:27 p.m., the sitting resumed.

The witnesses answered questions.

At 1:50 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
