Meeting No. 5

Tuesday, November 16, 1999

The Standing Committee on Industry met at 9:10 a.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: John Cannis, Brenda Chamberlain, Antoine Dubé, Marlene Jennings, Jim Jones, Walt Lastewka, Gurbax Malhi, Ian Murray, Charlie Penson, Jerry Pickard, Nelson Riis and Susan Whelan.

Other Member present: John Herron.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Department of Industry: John M. Banigan, Assistant Deputy Minister, Industry Sector; Ninon Charlebois, Director and Manager, Briefings and Strategic Management; Brian Kissner, Issues Policy Officer, Briefings and Strategic Management. From the Department of Finance: Paul Berg-Dick, Director Business Income Tax Division, Tax Policy Branch; Miodrag Jovanovic, Tax Policy Officer Business Income Tax Division, Tax Policy Branch. From the Export Development Corporation: Glen Hodgson, Director Government and International Relations; Daniel Primeau, Relationship Manager Transportation Equity and Business Team.

Pursuant to the Committee's mandate under Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study concerning Productivity, Innovation and Competitiveness as it relates to shipbuilding.

John Banigan from the Department of Industry, Paul Berg-Dick from the Department of Finance and Glen Hodgson from the Export Development Corporation, each made an opening statement and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

At 10:50 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
