Meeting No. 32

Thursday, March 23, 2000

The Standing Committee on Industry met at 9:03 a.m. this day, in Room 308, West Block, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: John Cannis, Walt Lastewka, Gurbax Malhi, Dan McTeague, Charlie Penson, Werner Schmidt and Susan Whelan.

Acting Members present: Gilles Bernier for Jim Jones, Karen Redman for Gerry Byrne and Michel Bellehumeur for Pierre Brien.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Gérald Lafrenière, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From Phone Busters: Barry Elliott, Detective Staff Sergeant, Coordinator. From the Canadian Association of Retired Persons: Rolf Calhoun.

The Committee resumed consideration of the subject matter of Bill C-229, An Act to amend the Canada Post Corporation Act (letter that cannot be transmitted by post).

The witnesses made statements and answered questions.

Walt Lastewka moved, - That the Committee adopt the Budget Submission for the period April 1, 2000 to March 31, 2001 in the amount of $86,500.
