Wednesday, May 31, 2000

The Standing Committee on Industry met at 3:39 p.m. this day, in Room 701, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Pierre Brien, Marlene Jennings, Walt Lastewka, Gurbax Malhi, Jerry Pickard and Susan Whelan.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Geoffrey Kieley, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From Elmhirst Resort: Peter Elmhirst, President. From the Tourism Industry Association of Canada: Duncan Ross, Project Manager, Rendez-Vous Canada. From the Land of the Loon Resort and Jacobson Bay Outfitters: Deborah Greening, Owner / Operator.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Wednesday, May 10, 2000, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill C-5, An Act to establish the Canadian Tourism Commission (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, May 30, 2000, Meeting No. 57).

Peter Elmhirst and Deborah Greening made statements and with Duncan Ross answered questions.

At 4:49 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
