Meeting No. 9

Thursday, November 25, 1999

The Standing Committee on Industry met at 9:17 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Susan Whelan, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Pierre Brien, John Cannis, Marlene Jennings, Jim Jones, Gurbax Malhi, Jerry Pickard, Werner Schmidt and Susan Whelan.

Other Member present: Dan McTeague.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Dan Shaw, Research Officer.

Witnesses: From the Competition Bureau: Konrad von Finckenstein, Commissioner of Competition; Don Mercer, Deputy Commissioner of Competition; Harry Chandler, Deputy Commissioner of Competition, Criminal Matters; André Lafond, Deputy Commissioner of Competition, Civil Matters.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee proceeded to the Consideration of Anti-Competitive Pricing Practices and the Competition Act.

The Commissioner of Competition tabled the report entitled "Anticompetitive Pricing Practices and the Competition Act-Theory, Law and Practice" prepared by J. Anthony VanDuzer and Gilles Paquet from the University of Ottawa.

The Commissioner of Competition made an opening statement and with Harry Chandler, answered questions.

At 10:28 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
