MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

 

Meeting No. 9

Tuesday, April 24, 2001

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in camera at 3:40 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, David Pratt, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Roy Bailey, Peter Goldring, Judi Longfield, John O'Reilly, Janko Peric, David Pratt, David Price, Geoff Regan, Peter Stoffer, Elsie Wayne, Bob Wood.

Other Member present: Leon Benoit.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner; Michel Rossignol, Research Officers.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of its future business.

It was agreed, - That the Chair be authorized to retain the professional services of Mr. Barrie Hamilton, as a consultant for the Committee, for the period of May 1st, 2001, to March 31, 2002, at a cost of $535. per day, for plus or minus 75 days, for a total amount of $40,000.

It was agreed, - That the proposed budget in the amount of $83,800. be adopted by the Committee for its study on the state of readiness of the Canadian Forces.

On a recorded division, it was agreed, - That, in relation to its study on the state of readiness of the Canadian Forces, the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs be authorized to travel to Washington, Norfolk and New York, from June 12 to 21, 2001, and that the necessary staff accompany the Committee; and that the proposed budget in the amount of $170,601. be adopted for the Committee’s travel to Washington, Norfolk and New York in relation to its study on the state of readiness of the Canadian Forces.

At 4:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
