Meeting No. 3

Tuesday, March 13, 2001

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in a televised session at 3:30 p.m., this day, in Room 112-N, Centre Block, the Chair, David Pratt, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Roy Bailey, Peter Goldring, Art Hanger, Judi Longfield, John O'Reilly, David Pratt, David Price, Carmen Provenzano, Geoff Regan, Peter Stoffer, Elsie Wayne.

Acting Member present: Larry Bagnell for Janko Peric.

Other Member present: Leon Benoit.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Michel Rossignol, Research Officers.

Appearing: From the Department of National Defence: The Hon. Art Eggleton, Minister of National Defence.

Witnesses: From the Department of National Defence: Vadm. Gary L. Garnett, Vice-Chief of the Defence Staff; R.M. (Bob) Emond, Assitant Deputy Minister, Finance and Corporate Services; Alan Williams, Assistant Deputy Minister, Materiel.

Pursuant to an Order of Reference of the House dated Tuesday, February 27, 2001, the Committee proceeded to its study of the Main Estimates 2001-2002 -- Votes 1, 5, 10, 15 and 20 under National Defence.

The Minister made an opening statement and, with the witnesses, answered questions.

At 5:30 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
