MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 21

Tuesday, October 2, 2001

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met at 9:02 a.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, for the purpose of electing a Chair and two Vice-Chairs, pursuant to Standing Orders 106(1) and (2).

Members of the Committee present: Rob Anders, Leon Benoit, Stan Dromisky, John O'Reilly, Louis Plamondon, David Pratt, David Price, Peter Stoffer, Bryon Wilfert, Bob Wood.

Acting Members present: Gary Pilliteri for Carmen Provenzano, Carol Skelton for Roy Bailey.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Michel Rossignol, Research Officers.

Pursuant to Standing Orders 106(1) and (2), election of a Chair and Vice-Chairs.

The Clerk presided over the election of the Chair.

Bob Wood moved, seconded by Leon Benoit,- That David Pratt do take the Chair of the Committee as Chairman.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.

Accordingly, David Pratt was declared duly elected Chair of the Committee and invited to take the Chair.

The Committee proceeded to the election of the Vice-Chairs.

Rob Anders moved, - That Leon Benoit be elected Vice-Chair.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.

Leon Benoit was declared Vice-Chair, Opposition side.

Stan Dromisky moved, - That David Price be elected Vice-Chair.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.

David Price was declared Vice-Chair, Government side.

David Price moved, - That the Committee report by the end of November on the issue of counter-terrorism and that the report be an interim report to the Committee’s overall study on operational readiness.

The question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.

The Chair presented the Second Report of the Sub-Committee on Agenda and Procedure.

After debate, it was agreed, - That the Second Report of the Sub-Committee on Agenda and Procedure be concurred in.

At 9:15 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
