MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 20

Monday, June 11, 2001

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in camera at 3:30 p.m. this day, in Room 362, East Block, the Chair, David Pratt, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Claude Bachand, Peter Goldring, Judi Longfield, John O'Reilly, Janko Perić, David Pratt, David Price, Carmen Provenzano, Geoff Regan, Elsie Wayne, Bob Wood.

Acting Member present: Rob Anders for Roy Bailey.

In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Michel Rossignol, Research Officers. Barry Hamilton, Consultant.

Pursuant to Standing Orders 81 (7) and (8), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of a draft report on the plans and priorities of the Estimates 2001-2002 of the Department of National Defence.

It was agreed, - That the Report, as amended, be approved by the Committee and that the Chair be allowed to table it in the House as the Second Report of the Committee.

It was agreed, - That, in accordance with the provisions of Standing Order 109, the Committee request that the Government provide a comprehensive response to this report.

It was agreed,- That the Chair, when presenting the Report in the House, will mention that next year the Committee will comment on the plans and priorities of both National Defence and Veterans Affairs Departments.

The Committee proceeded to the consideration of the new rules concerning the videotaping and broadcasting of committee meetings.

It was agreed, - That, pursuant to the 19th Report of the Procedure and House Affairs Committee, when a member of the Parliamentary Press Gallery wishes to video record a Committee meeting, the Clerk of the Committee be provided, in all circumstances prior to the meeting, with a 48 hours notice.

At 4:48 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
