Meeting No. 28

Tuesday, October 30, 2001

The Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations met at 10:01a.m. this day, in Room 208 West Block, the Chair, Ovid Jackson presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: John Cannis, Bev Desjarlais, André Harvey, Ovid Jackson, Mario Laframboise, Val Meredith, James Moore, Marcel Proulx, Alex Shepherd, Darrel Stinson, Paul Szabo.

In Attendance: From the Research branch of the Library of Parliament: John Christopher, June Dewetering, Researchers.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Airports Council: Paul Benoit, President and CEO, MacDonald-Cartier International Airport; R. Neil Raynor, Executive Director. From the Canadian Security Intelligence Service: Ward P. Elcock, Director. From the Royal Canadian Mounted Police: Ray Bonnell, Superintendent; Gord Johnston, Sergeant; Dwight McCallum, Assistant Commissioner, Canadian Royal Mounted Police.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its study of airline and airport security.

 

R. Neil Raynor and Paul benoit each made a statement and answered questions.

 

At 11:10 a.m. the meeting was suspended.

 

At 11:15a.m. the meeting was resumed in camera.

 

Ward P. Elcock, Dwight McCallum, Ray Bonnell and Gord Johnston answered questions.

 

The Committee proceeded to consider its future business.

 

It was agreed – That the Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations be authorized to travel to Washington, D.C. in relation to its study of airline and airport safety from Sunday November 25 to Tuesday November 27 2001, and that the necessary staff accompany the Committee.

 

At 12:55 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
