Meeting No. 23
Tuesday, October 2, 2001
The
Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations met in camera
at 11:07a.m. this day, in Room 308 West Block, the Chair, Ovid Jackson
presiding.
Member(s) of the
Committee present:
Reg Alcock, Gerry Byrne, John Cannis, Bev Desjarlais, André Harvey, Ovid
Jackson, Mario Laframboise, Ghislain Lebel, Val Meredith, James Moore, Marcel
Proulx, Alex Shepherd, Paul Szabo.
Other Members present: Darrel Stinson.
In attendance: From the Research branch of the
Library of Parliament: John Christopher; June Dewetering, Researchers.
In accordance
with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), the Committee began consideration
of its future business.
It was
agreed – That the Committee conduct a study on airline security, safety and
restructuring and that the Chair in conjunction with the clerk and researchers
prepare a work plan.
It was
agreed – That the Committee plan a field trip to Lester B. Pearson
International Airport in Toronto to investigate that airport’s security system.
It was
agreed – That the Committee hear from representatives of the Safety and
Security group of the Department of Transport on Thursday October 4, 2001.
At 12:35 p.m., the
Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
