MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS
Meeting No. 44
Wednesday, December 5, 2001
The Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations met in camera at 3:40 p.m. this day, in Room 705 La Promenade, the Chair, Ovid Jackson presiding.
Members of the Committee present: John Cannis, Joe Comuzzi, Bev Desjarlais, André Harvey, Ovid Jackson, Mario Laframboise, Val Meredith, James Moore, Marcel Proulx, Alex Shepherd, Paul Szabo.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: John Christopher; June Dewetering, Researchers.
In accordance with Standing Order 108(2), the
Committee resumed consideration of its study on the current state of airline
safety and security in Canada.
It was agreed: - That the Chair, in conjunction
with the clerk and researchers, be authorized to make such typographical and
editorial changes as may be necessary without changing the substance of the
report.
The Committee proceeded to consider a draft
report.
It was agreed: - That the draft report be
amended in paragraph 10, line 1, on page 3, by deleting the following:
Justice/Solicitor General Canada
It was agreed: - That the draft Report, as
amended, be adopted as the Committee’s ninth Report to the House and that the
Chairman be instructed to present it to the House.
It was agreed: - That, pursuant to Standing
Order 109, the Committee request that the Government table a comprehensive
response to the Report within one hundred and fifty (150) days.
It was agreed: - That the Chair, in conjunction
with the researchers and clerk, write and publish a press release announcing
the findings of the Committee’s report on airline and airport security.
It was agreed: - That, pursuant to Standing
Order 108 (1) (a), the Committee authorizes the printing of the dissenting
opinions of opposition parties as an appendix to this report immediately after
the signature of the chair; that the dissenting opinions be limited to not more
than 2 pages; and that the dissenting opinions be delivered to the clerk of the
Committee not later than Thursday, December 6, 2001 at 5:00 p.m.
At 5:50 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
