The Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations met at 4:10 p.m. this day, in Room 269, West Block, the Chair, Ovid Jackson, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Bev Desjarlais, Jim Gouk, André Harvey, Ovid Jackson, Mario Laframboise, Alex Shepherd, Paul Szabo.

Acting Members present: John Finlay for John Cannis, Larry Bagnell for Marcel Proulx.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: John Christopher, Research Officer.

Appearing: From the House of Commons: The Hon. David Collenette, Minister of Transport.

Witnesses: From the Department of Transport: Louis Ranger, Deputy Minister of Transport, Transport Canada; William J.S. Elliott, Assistant Deputy Minister, Safety and Security Group; Ronald Sully, Assistant Deputy Minister, Programs and Divestiture Group; Yvonne Latta, A/Assistant Deputy Minister, Corporate Services, ADM's Office; Christine Nymark, Associate Assistant Deputy Minister, Policy Group; Jacques E. Pigeon, General Counsel, Legal Services.

Pursuant to Standing Order 81(6), the Committee proceeded to the consideration of the Main Estimates for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2003: Votes 1, 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35 under Transport.

David Collenette made an opening statement and, with Louis Ranger, William J. S. Elliot and Ronald Sully, answered questions.

At 6:08 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
