Meeting No. 20

Tuesday, June 5, 2001

The Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations met at 10:01 a.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Ovid Jackson, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Larry Bagnell, Brian Fitzpatrick, Ovid Jackson, Mario Laframboise, Serge Marcil, Alex Shepherd, Brent St. Denis, Paul Szabo, Tony Tirabassi.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: John Christopher, June Dewetering, researchers.

Witnesses: From the Teamsters Canada: André R. Papineau, President, Business Representative. From the Building Construction Trades Deptement of the AFL-CIO: Phil Benson, Director, Research Legislative Affairs.

Pursuant to its Order of Reference of Tuesday, May 15, 2001, the Committee resumed consideration of Bill S-3, An Act to amend the Motor Vehicle Transport Act, 1987 and to make consequential amendments to other Acts (See Minutes of Proceedings, Tuesday, May 29, 2001, Meeting No. 18).

André Papineau made a statement and, with Phil Benson, answered questions.

The Committee proceeded to Clause-by-Clause consideration of the Bill.

At 10:47 a.m., the meeting was suspended.

At 10:49 a.m., the meeting was resumed.

The Committee proceeded to sit in camera to discuss the draft report of the Committee's Airline Operations Study.

At 10:55 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
