MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 45

Tuesday, December 11, 2001

The Standing Committee on Transport and Government Operations met at 10:02 a.m. this day, in Room 705, La Promenade Building, the Chair, Ovid Jackson, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Reg Alcock, Bev Desjarlais, André Harvey, Ovid Jackson, Mario Laframboise, Val Meredith, Marcel Proulx, Alex Shepherd, Darrel Stinson, Paul Szabo.

Acting Members present: Dominic Leblanc for Gerry Byrne and Robert Bertrand for Joe Comuzzi.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: John Christopher; June Dewetering, Researchers.

Witnesses: From the Canadian Trucking Alliance: David Bradley, Chief Executive Officer; Graham Cooper, Senior Vice-President. From the Teamsters Canada: François Laporte, Director of Government Affairs; Larry MacDonald, Vice President International.

In accordance with its mandate under Standing Order 108(2), the Committee began its consideration of the Canadian Trucking Alliance - Teamsters Canada agreement on common position regarding proposed changes to the commercial vehicle hours of service regulations.

 

David Bradley and François Laporte each made opening statements and, with the other witnesses, answered questions.

 

At 11:35 a.m. the sitting was suspended.

 

At 11:38 a.m. the sitting was resumed in camera.

 

The Committee proceeded to consider the draft report.

 

It was moved: - That the draft Report be adopted as the Committee’s tenth Report to the House and that the Chairman be instructed to present it to the House.

 

By unanimous consent, the motion was withdrawn.

At 12:18 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
