Tuesday, April 16, 2002
The
Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera at 9:10 a.m.
this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Wayne Easter, presiding.

Committee present:
Andy Burton, John Cummins, Rodger Cuzner, Wayne Easter, Loyola Hearn, Bill
Matthews, Jean-Yves Roy, Paul Steckle, Tom Wappel.
In attendance: From the Library of Parliament:
Alan Nixon, Research Officer.
Pursuant to Standing Order
108(2), the Committee began consideration of draft correspondence concerning
the September 17th, 1999 Supreme Court decision on R. v. Marshall on the
Management of Fisheries in the Atlantic Region.
It was agreed, – That the
Chair forward the letter on the Aboriginal Fisheries Strategy as amended.
At 9:45 a.m., the Committee
met in open session.
The Committee proceeded to
consider matters related to Committee business.
On motion of Bill Matthews,
it was agreed, – That the Committee’s motion of April 9, 2002 relating to
travel in British Columbia on the Committee’s studies on the management of the
Fraser River salmon fishery and aquaculture be amended by striking the words
“20 to 26 April 2002” and substituting therefore “May 6-10, 2002”.
On motion of John Cummins,
it was agreed, – That the Committee invite the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans
to appear on or before May 2, 2002, to review the Main Estimates of the
Department of Fisheries and Oceans.
At 10:09 a.m., the
Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
