MINUTES OF PROCEEDINGS

Meeting No. 46

Tuesday, April 9, 2002

The Standing Committee on Fisheries and Oceans met in camera at 9:12 a.m. this day, in Room 536, Wellington Building, the Chair, Wayne Easter, presiding.

Member(s) of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Andy Burton, John Cummins, Rodger Cuzner, Wayne Easter, Georges Farrah, Loyola Hearn, Dominic LeBlanc, Jean-Yves Roy, Paul Steckle, Peter Stoffer.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Alan Nixon, research officer.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee began consideration of draft correspondence on Local Fishery Issues.

It was agreed, - That the Chair forward the letter on the Somass sockeye salmon fishery as amended.

It was agreed, - That the Chair forward the letter on marine munitions disposal sites as amended.

It was agreed, - That the Chair forward the letter on hatchery support as amended.

It was agreed, - That the Chair forward the letter on the small craft harbours in Tors Cove and Burnt Cove as amended.

It was agreed, - That the Chair forward the letter on Vessel Replacement Policies as amended.

It was agreed, - That the Chair forward the letter on Class “B” Lobster Licensing Policies as amended.

It was agreed, - That the budget in the amount of $120, 544 for the Committee’s travel to the West Coast be approved.

It was agreed, - That the Committee seek an Order of Reference from the House of Commons to travel to B.C. from 20 to 26 April 2002 to continue their comprehensive study on aquaculture and other issues, that the said Committee be composed of 2 Alliance members, 1 Bloc Québécois member, 1 NDP member, 1 PCDRC member and 5 Liberals, and that the necessary staff do accompany the Committee.

At 10:27 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
