Meeting No. 23

Thursday, March 23, 2000

The Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs met in a televised session at 9:05 a.m. this day, in Room 253-D, Centre Block, the Chair, Pat O'Brien, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Robert Bertrand, Hec Clouthier, Gordon Earle, Art Hanger, René Laurin, Judi Longfield, Pat O'Brien, John O'Reilly, Janko Peric and George Proud.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Wolf Koerner and Corinne McDonald, Research Officers.

Witnesses: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Paul Heinbecker, Assistant Deputy Minister, Global and Security Policy; Paul Meyer, Director General, International Security Bureau.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed consideration of its study on the Revolution in Military Affairs - National Missile Defence.

Paul Heinbecker made an opening statement and, with the witness, answered questions.

At 10:57 a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
