Tuesday, May 11, 1999

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met jointly with the Standing Committee on National Defence and Veterans Affairs at 3:22 p.m. this day, in Room 371, West Block, the Co-Chairs, Bill Graham and Pat O'Brien, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Bill Graham, Jerry Pickard, Daniel Turp.

Associate Member present: Serge Cardin.

Other Member present: Joe Jordan.

Members of the Standing Committee of National Defence and Veterans Affairs present: Gordon Earle, Jim Hart, René Laurin, Ghislain Lebel, Pat O'Brien, John O'Reilly, David Price, George Proud.

Witnesses: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Jim Wright, Director General for Central East and South Europe. From the Department of National Defence: Lt-Gen Raymond R. Henault, Deputy Chief of the Defence Staff, OP ABACUS. From the Canadian International Development Agency: Hélène Corneau, Program Manager, Central and Eastern Europe Programme. From the Citizenship and Immigration Canada: Jeff LeBane, Director General, International Relations.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its examination of the situation in Kosovo. (See the Minutes of Proceedings of March 31, 1999, Meeting No. 111.)

Jim Wright, Lt-Gen Raymond R. Henault and Jeff LeBane each made an opening statement and answered questions.

At 4:15 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
