THURSDAY, MARCH 26, 1998
The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met in camera at 9:14 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 308 of the West Block, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Jean Augustine, Bill Graham, Raymonde Folco, Gurmant Grewal, Ted McWhinney, Denis Paradis, Charlie Penson, Julian Reed, Bob Speller, Daniel Turp.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: James Lee and Gerald Schmitz, Research Officers.
Witness: From the Department of Foreign Affairs: Michael Leir, Director General, United States Bureau.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108 (2), the Committee convened a briefing session on Canada – U.S. relations.
Michael Leir made a opening statement and answered questions.
It was agreed, --That the cost of a working luncheons to discuss disarmament and trade issues in Washington on March 30th and March 31st, 1998 and of a working luncheon to discuss disarmament in New York on April 1st, 1998 be charged to the Committee budget.
At 10:20 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
