THURSDAY, MAY 7, 1998
The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 10:05 o’clock a.m., this day, in Room 209 of the West Block, Bob Speller presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Colleen Beaumier, John Cannis, Bill Graham, Gurmant Grewal, Ted McWhinney, Denis Paradis, Julian Reed, Svend Robinson, Benoît Sauvageau, Bob Speller, Daniel Turp.
Acting Members present: Ivan Grose for Jean Augustine; Monique Guay for Maud Debien; Diane St-Jacques for André Bachand.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz, Research Officer.
Appearing: Honourable Diane Marleau, Minister International Cooperation and Minister responsible for La Francophonie.
Witnesses: From the Canadian International Development Agency: Huguette Labelle, President; John Robinson, Vice-President, Policy Branch.
Pursuant to Standing Order 81(4), and the Orders of the House of February 26, 1998 and March 25, 1998, the Committee proceeded to examine the Main Estimates 1998-1999 and the Report on Plans and Priorities for the Canadian International Development Agency (Sessional Paper No. 8520-361-99).
The Chair called Votes 20 and 25.
The Honourable Diane Marleau made a statement and, with Huguette Labelle, answered questions.
The Chair Bill Graham took the Chair at 10:15 o’clock a.m.
Bob Speller moved, --That the meeting do now adjourn.
And the question being put on the motion, it was agreed to.
Accordingly, the meeting adjourned at 11:33 o’clock a.m. to the call of the Chair.
