THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 1998
The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 9:07 o’clock a.m., this day, in room 209 of the West Block, the Vice-Chair, Colleen Beaumier, presiding.
Members of the Committee present: Sarkis Assadourian, Jean Augustine, André Bachand, Maud Debien, Raymonde Folco, Gurmant Grewal, Ted McWhinney, Julian Reed, Bob Speller, Daniel Turp.
In attendance: From the Parliamentary Research Branch of the Library of Parliament: James Lee and Gerald Schmitz, Research Officers.
Witnesses: From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Lorne Green, Director, Nuclear Non-proliferation and Disarmament Implementation Agency. From the Atomic Energy Control Board : Dr. Kenneth Wagstaff, Head, Nuclear Non-proliferation Section, Non-proliferation, Safeguards and Security Division; Dr. John Hodgkinson, Head, Safeguards Section. From the Canadian International Development Agency: Charles Bassett, Vice-President, Central and Eastern Europe Branch. From Natural Resources Canada: Peter A. Brown, Director, Uranium and Radioactive Waste Division, Energy Resources Branch.
Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee resumed its examination of Canada’s policy on nuclear non-proliferation, arms control and disarmament.
Lorne Green, Kenneth Wagstaff and Charles Bassett each made an opening statement and, with John Hodgkinson and Peter Brown, answered questions.
At 10:20 o’clock a.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
