Wednesday, October 28, 1998

The Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Trade met at 3:37 p.m. this day, in Room 237-C, Centre Block, the Chair, Bill Graham, presiding.

Members of the Committee present: André Bachand, Colleen Beaumier, Bill Graham, Bob Mills, Bernard Patry, Julian Reed, Svend Robinson, Bob Speller, Daniel Turp.

In attendance: From the Library of Parliament: Gerald Schmitz.

Witnesses:From the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade: Paul Heinbecker, Assistant Deputy Minister, Global and Security Policy; Patricia Fortier, Deputy Director, Regional Security and Peacekeeping Division; Charles Court, Deputy Director, NATO Division, North America and Euro-Atlantic Security and Defence Relations; Jim Wright, Director General for Central, East and South Europe; Guy Archambault, Deputy Director (Balkans), Southern Europe Division.

Pursuant to Standing Order 108(2), the Committee convened a briefing session on the situation in Kosovo.

Paul Heinbecker made an opening statement and, with Jim Wright, Charles Court and Guy Archambault, answered questions.

At 5:07 p.m., the Committee adjourned to the call of the Chair.
